Saturday: heritage and landscapes

Start the day with a guided tour of the International Station of Canfranc. This striking piece of architecture was one of the largest in Europe in its day and hides a fascinating history. Follow it with a walk to the A Lurte Centre, where you will learn about avalanches and high-mountain geography.

In the afternoon, climb up to the Coll de Ladrones. This old military fortress offers incredible panoramic views over the valley. Finish the day with dinner at one of the local restaurants, where you can try Pyrenean specialities such as trout, ternasco lamb or mountain cheeses.

Sunday: nature and downtime

Begin with a gentle walk, such as the Paseo de los Melancólicos or the path towards the Izas valley. Both are ideal for the whole family, with landscapes straight off a postcard. If you would rather do something cultural, visit the Cueva de las Güixas in Villanúa, very close to Canfranc.

Before heading home, stop at one of the picnic areas or viewpoints along the road. Breathe in the mountain air and say goodbye to this magical corner.
