A break in Canfranc: nature, sport and culture in one destination

Canfranc is the perfect destination for a weekend or a long break. In this corner of the Aragonese Pyrenees you can combine mountain walks, cultural visits and outdoor activities in a unique natural setting. Not sure where to start? Here is a 3-day plan that will help you make the most of every minute.

Day 1: reconnecting with nature

Start your break with a walk through the Estiviellas valley or along the Coll de Ladrones path. Both offer spectacular landscapes and total immersion in the Pyrenean forest. Bring your camera and something for a picnic: there are rest areas where you can eat surrounded by nature.

Day 2: history and architecture

Devote this day to Canfranc's cultural heritage. Start with the emblematic International Station, where a guided tour reveals its secrets and its role as a key crossing point in the Second World War. Then head to the A Lurte Centre to learn about avalanches and the mountains. In the afternoon, enjoy a coffee in the village and take it easy.

Day 3: adventure to close the trip

On your last day, go for something exciting: rafting on the river Aragón, ziplines, or a via ferrata. If you come in winter, a snowshoe route or a day's skiing in Astún or Candanchú are ideal ways to finish on a high.

Tips for your trip

  • Check the weather and plan activities in advance.
  • Secure your accommodation and guided tour bookings.
  • Bring comfortable clothing and footwear, ideally waterproof.
